Columbian Artists Association Monthly Meeting

The Columbian Artist Association (CAA) meets the first Tuesday of every month from 10:00 am to noon in Room 316 (Conference Room) at the Merk, 1339 Commerce Street, Longview. We pick a cozy spot and arrange chairs in a large circle. If there's a sizable crowd, we sit in concentric circles and work from the center outward. We choose a person to start with, and decide to move to the left or the right. The person who is "up" has several options:

1.PLAY: Play or sing a song for the group, read a poem, tell a story, play an instrumental. It's nice if you introduce yourself beforehand so that we may get to know you. If a song has a chorus that
you think folks would enjoy singing along with, you may want to teach it to the group before you begin so that we may join you. You may also invite others to play or jam along with you...or not. Your choice. Please ask if you want to play solo, since musicians just like to play along but will respect a person's desire to play alone when it is made known. All musical styles, all ages and skill levels are encouraged.

2. PICK: Choose a song you'd like to hear or have the group sing. You may also request songs of other people in the group if you aret familiar with their music and want to hear something that you and perhaps the others might enjoy.

3. PASS: For the spectators, the shy, or anyone else who wishes to participate in the group but tends to blank out under pressure. Or, for anyone with their mouth full of food.

SONG CIRCLE is a traditional, relaxed way to share time, fun, art, and community. Acoustic instruments of all kinds are encouraged, but not necessary if you simply love to sing. No one dominates, but anyone may lead the group in song or entertain when it is their turn. People may enter or leave the circle as they wish, but at all times within and without the circle, it is understood that no one is to be rude or disruptive. The circle will continue until the last hearty soul peters out, the Matrix closes, or we all file out and adjourn to the nearest gin mill to continue, to the shock and potential amusement of the local patrons.

outing club. Currently with 100 members & growing, the club
schedules hikes (almost) every Monday and (almost) every Saturday
year round. During the winter, hikes are often replaced by x-country
skiing & snowshoeing. Other outdoor activities include biking,
camping, canoeing and picnicking.

Monday hikes are Easy to Moderate: (3 to 7 miles & less than 1000 elevation)
Saturday hikes are Moderate to Difficult (5 to 12 miles & over 1000 elevation).

Kyle Ward and Maureen Browning, Ritual and Shamanic Practitioners, Healers and Sun Dancers will show you how to contact the spirits of the medicine wheel to assist in ordinary daily life by receiving helpful information, teachings and guidance.
Please bring your drum and/or rattle, sack lunch, blanket, eye covering, bottle of water, an open mind and heart to hear the similarities of the traditional Native American medicine wheel teachings with those of Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and other world religions.

The Mt. St. Helens Club is southwest Washington’s oldest & favorite outing
club. Currently with 100 members & growing, the club schedules hikes
(almost) every Monday and (almost) every Saturday year round. During
the winter, hikes are often replaced by x-country skiing & snowshoeing.
Other outdoor activities include biking, camping, canoeing and picnicking.

Monday hikes are Easy to Moderate: (3 to 7 miles & less than 1000 elevation)
Saturday hikes are Moderate to Difficult (5 to 12 miles & over 1000 elevation).

Each month we have a category of images that we enter as well as traditional, or open class. Alzheimer’s Association caregiver support groups provide a consistent and caring place for people to learn, share and gain emotional support from others who are also on a unique journey of providing care to a person with dementia. Recognizing that some caregivers find it challenging to access traditional support groups, the Chapter has launched a telephone support group that offers the benefits of a traditional face-to-face support group without the need to leave home. The toll-free teleconference group is held the third Tuesday of each month, from 7:30 – 9:00 p.m., and facilitated by Barbara Bridges, RN, MSN. Cowlitz Americorps Network Helps Local Veterans on Armed Forces Day

Cowlitz Americorps Network (CAN) will be working with the Longview Housing Authority (LHA) to refurbish and beautify the Stratford Apartments. The Cowlitz Americorps Network is part of The Corporation for National & Community Service that focuses on community needs which serve children and families by giving one-on-one guidance and assistance in order to make a difference in their lives. Part of The AmeriCorps Pledge states “I will get things done for America-to make our people safer, smarter, and healthier.”

Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 under President Harry Truman when the “military was unified under one government department.” It serves many purposes including being a day to honor and acknowledge Americans in the armed forces. The CAN has chosen this day as one of their service projects to help those in need in our community.

LHA has made a commitment to honor veterans by implementing the Veteran’s Integration Program (VIP) for homeless veterans. The program helps veterans by providing housing, case management and employment.

CAN, partnering with LHA are refurbishing and beautifying The Stratford Apartments in readiness for future veteran tenants. The goal is to provide safe housing for veterans.

Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network and Longview Housing Authority's Veteran Integration Program are partnering together to refurbish the Stratford Arms Apartments for a new housing project for our homeless veterans.

Quite often these homeless vets come to us with just the clothing on they are wearing and need everything. To be able to have these items needed we are asking for donations the following items.

Toothpaste, toothbrushes, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving cream, blankets, pillows, doederant, bath towels, wash clothes, and body wash. The items listed above must be new. The following items may be new or gently used: pots and pans, dishes, silverware, glasses, cooking utensils, garbage can and bags, a shower curtain and hooks, can opener, kitchen knife and cutting board, measuring cups and spoons, brooms, mops, dustpan and a utility/mop bucket.

club. Currently with 100 members & growing, the club schedules hikes
