This is the final in a series of community outreach meetings to help a Kelso citizens group decide which of a consultant’s suggestions the city should carry out to enhance its image and economic growth.
The Community Assessment Task Force is comprised of people representing Kelso’s business owners, schools, government, neighborhoods, tourist industry, arts, recreation and history. It’s a collaboration of the city and the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce.
Information the task force gathers at the meetings will be used to evaluate the community assessment conducted in spring 2008 by Destination Development, a Seattle-based “branding” consultant the city hired to evaluate its “community appeal.”
Where: Wallace Elementary School Cafeteria
When: 6:30pm
The public is invited to come to the meeting, give suggestions and help rank those the task force already has. Eventually, the task force will create an action plan to present to the Kelso City Council.
“The task force wants to hear from all parts of our community, not just the downtown. It is important that every resident has the opportunity to let us know what improvements matter to them,” said Rick Winsman, chamber president.
For more information or to get on the task force notification list, contact Shelly Timm at the City of Kelso, (360)577-3301 or Norma Davey at the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce, (360)423-8400.

If humans create robots to complete everyday tasks and jobs, what would people do with extra time they’d have on their hands?
How would they earn a living? Would they watch more television? Play video games? Take more walks in the park?
“Where will that lead?” asked Lower Columbia College instructor Jerry Zimmerman, organizer of an upcoming LCC lecture series called “The New Frontier: Science, Medicine and the Future.”
The weekly series will explore how changes in science, medicine and technology will affect our lives.
The nine lectures will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays starting Jan. 8. They will take place in the Wollenberg Auditorium in the college’s new Rose Center. The lectures are free and open to the public.
